After High Life Dubai’s hugely impactful and successful
tracel episodes in the past, we are back with another travel episode as the
travel bug has bit me! This time we are showcasing the luxurious Six Senses
Zighy Bay in Oman.
Day One:
We started at 10.00 AM in the morning with our
transportation partners Lama Tours. Heading to Oman by road was an adventurous
and unique experience, as I got to see some amazing mountains.
Six Senses Zighy Bay is located in a secluded bay on Oman’s
Musandam Peninsula. The resort is unique and stands apart as it adapts the
Omani culture and it resembles the traditional Omani village in many ways. A
few to mention, narrow passages between the invidual villas and palm shaded,
sandy roads and is an almost car-free environment.
The activities at Six Senses Zighy Bay are phenomenal. They
gave me a choice to enter the resort by road or by paragliding, and I thought
of taking the adventurous route- paragliding it is! The feeling was absolutely
surreal and addictive… the quite solitude as I went down felt like heaven. I
recommend all of you to paraglide at least once in your life. (Trust me, it is
not as scary as it looks J)
I was welcomed in Zighy Bay style, my butler gave me a hot
towel to refresh my energies down. After that I got ready for the archery which
I was doing for the first time in my life. Travel is all about getting out of
the routine and being spontaneous and living life with a bend.
Archery is a great sport for boosting mental and physical
health and fitness, and also other benefits such as improving your patience
levels and teaching safety. With the
expert at Six Senses Zighy Bay, I was glad to have learnt the important basics
of the sport. I always believe that if you focus on something and put your
heart and mind to it, you will achieve it. Finally I got the bulls eye ;)
Six Senses Zighy Bay recently introduced a new activity Abseiling
at the Wine Tower. The experts told me that this activity helps you fight your
fear for heights. I love to try new things in life, so I went ahead and
experienced this.
After all this I was famished and could not wait to have my
dinner at the starlight table 300m above sea level. I was seated at the
mountaintop enjoying the most peaceful view from above. I was spiled for choice
with a variety of delicious offering, appetizers- Falafel doughnut and Seared
scallops on Crispy falafel with cucumber, tomato jelly and mint labneh. Main
course- two way lamb, lamb fillet, lamb cutlet with carrot hummus, artichoke,
Lebanese Green Beans and sweet garlic and the sweet endings were the Arabic
sweets- Omani halwa mousse with basil soup, saffron ganache and crystalized
basil.
And before I left, I lit their traditional sky lantern which
I set free in the sky. I was told that many people come here and make a wish
before they light and send it straight to the heavens. Perfect way to celebrate
Valentine’s Day.
Day Two:
What a start of the day, a good breakfast is what I enjoy. We
reached for the sunrise one hour earlier and waited for another one hour by the
beach for the sun to rise. Realized later that Zighy Bay followed “Zighy time”
and everything is 1 hour behind. I get away to the immense grandeur of Six
Senses Zighy Bay and relish every bit of my sunrise breakfast on the sandy
shores. Totally high life and absolutely loved it!
The Managing Director of this resort visited us during our
sunrise breakfast and we interviewed him to know more about Zighy Bay!
Next, I enjoyed yoga in the middle of nowhere at the
pavilion. I love fitness and ensure to keep my body fit even when traveling.
Zighy Bay has an excellent pavilion where one can indulge in tranquility in the
middle of the mountains and peacefully do yoga.
Spa is extremely important as it relieves all your stress
muscles and calms your soul and body. I was pampered with a Thai Silk Facial
which is effective for improving the facial skin texture. It uses a traditional
natural silk cocoon with Sericin essential protein to firm and tone your skin
complex. I also enjoyed a Oriental massage which left me feeling completely
harmonized and balanced.
After a relaxing spa, I was famished and enjoyed my meal at
the Summer House. Summer House
and the Terrace is an ideal place to enjoy a light lunch, tea or flavored drink
at any time throughout the day.
I stopped by the wine cellar at the wine tower and met the
sommelier there. Was amazed to see the variety of wines. As with all Six Senses properties, a
wine cellar that encompasses a selection of some of the world's best received
wine varietals and wineries. The Cellar’s selection is compiled bearing in mind
the diversity of labels and winemaking styles that exist. The Cellar also hosts
regular wine tastings and wine and cheese evenings with our master sommelier; A
fun and learning experience. “Haute Couture Wine Dinners” designed for those
seeking to explore the secrets of the wine cellar with menu preparations and
wine styles matching individual taste buds take the gourmands on a gastronomic
journey.
Next, I
enjoyed my dinner atop the wine tower. Dining
atop the Wine Tower was yet another unforgettable memory. Tailor made to offer
you the complete sense of luxury, this dining experience atop the Wine Tower,
took place 293 meters above sea level and added the finishing touches to my
already memorable day. And my 3 course meal included 4 textures of spiny
lobsters, grass fed vamco valley lamb fillet and for desert some chocolate
& cookies.
That day we celebrated Team
HLD’s cameraman, Abid Ali’s birthday. He was surprised with a delicious
chocolate cake. Always feels great to celebrate wherever you go.
Day Three:
For those of you who enjoy
fitness even while on holiday, the outdoor jungle gym at Six Senses Zighy Bay
is a must-try. After a warm up, I went in for circuit training and monkey bars.
Felt great to kick start my day with fitness! Realizing your strengths and
weaknesses even after so many years of gym, it felt great.
Next, we were all set for Snorkeling. Love
to snorkel and discover the under water world. Snorkeling is the practice of
swimming through body of water while being equipped with a diving mask, a
shaped tube called the snorkel and usually swim fins. Snorkeling is a
popular recreational activity, especially here at Zighy Bay. The primary
appeal is the opportunity to observe underwater life in a natural setting
without the complicated equipment and training. It appeals to all ages because
of how little effort there is, and without the exhaled bubbles of scuba-diving
equipment.
Last activity of the day Arab cuisine
includes the cuisines from various arab countries in the arab world, from Morocco
to Tunisia and Saudi Arabia. Originally, this kind of cooking relied
heavily on a diet of dates wheat barley rice and meats with a heavy
emphasis on yoghurt products such as labneh. For a cooking enthusiast like me,
It was a delight to spend my afternoon at the Organic Garden at Six Senses
Zighy Bay learning the art of Arabic Cooking. Making my favourite Fattoush
salad, Falafel sandwich and Samkeh Harra and Um Ali in dessert was a delight. After my cooking session, Chef Ali gifted me a Six Senses cook book which compiles of all the delicious recipes of Chefs around the Six Senses property... yumm!
My adventure at Six Senses Zighy Bay was a
delight and I recommend all of you reading this blog to head to the magical journey
Zighy Bay. If you reside from Dubai, this beautiful and luxurious resort is
only 2 hours away, you can indulge in your dream paradise….
